Depending on their performance over the course of the season, some athletes may have the option of competing at various championship events hosted by Little Athletics NSW or Little Athletics Australia.
Zone – Hosted by Little Athletics NSW, this carnival is the major event for the North East Metro Zone, and there is one event per season. The Zone Championship is open to all U7 to U17 athletes, but athletes must complete a nomination form if they wish to be considered for any event. See below for detailed Zone information 2022.
Regionals – Our athletes represent the North East Metro Zone at this event, which attracts clubs from across the north of Sydney. Athletes are invited to attend this event based on their performance at the Zone Championship.
State – Top performing athletes from Regional Championships across NSW will have the opportunity to compete at a state level, at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre at Homebush.
State Relays – The State Relay Championships is the largest event on the Little Athletics NSW calendar in terms of number of competitors. Athletes can nominate to attend and final selection will be made by the MLAC Championships Committee.
This carnival is the major event for the North East Metro Zone, and there is one event per season. Five Little Athletics Centres contest this event:
Date: 25-27 November 2022
Location: Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen
Eligibility: Athletes from U7-U17 are eligible to nominate to compete.
U7 to U11 athletes may nominate for up to 4 events. They also have an opportunity to nominate up to 2 alternative events to be considered if their first choice is full.
Zone team selection will be based on several factors including competition night results and coach input. Mosman can select a maximum of 5 participants from our club for any one U7-U11 event and final selection will be decided by the MLA Championships Team.
U12 to U17 athletes can nominate for up to 6 events and athletes will be selected for every event they nominate.
Athletes must self nominate via Results HQ
The carnival not-before times for track and field events are below. Please carefully consider your athlete’s availability and the event times and days – team selections once provided to the Zone Coordinator are final.
$20 ADMINISTRATION CHARGE PER ATHLETE:
There will be a charge of $20 per athlete to contribute to the cost of entry to the oval for all athletes and spectators, as well as MLA coach and administrative costs at zone. This can be paid via this link https://form.jotform.com/223198620154858 (consideration will be given to any family for whom paying this fee is difficult).
Parent Helper Duties: Parents/carers of athletes are required to assist with up to 2 hours of duties per athlete over the weekend. Sign up instructions will be sent once the team has been selected. If you are unable to do the required duties please do not nominate your athlete to compete.
All zone athletes must wear full Mosman uniform when competing. Link to uniform page https://mosmanlittleathletics.com/information/uniforms-and-spikes/
Uniforms must have the following patches attached:
Use of Spikes
All types of pyramid spikes are now permitted at the Sydney Academy of Sport.
For Zone you do not need to use starting blocks for a standing start in spikes. BUT if you progress to regionals all athletes using spikes MUST use starting blocks.
The Junior (U9-U12) and Senior (U13-U17) Zone relay team members will be notified separately.
It is a mandatory requirement to undertake parent volunteer duty during the carnival. Every family will be required to sign up for one duty slot (up to 2 hours) per athlete. An email is sent out once the team is selected – please keep an eye out for the email as duties are available on a first come first served basis.
All parent helpers must be wearing closed in shoes – not thongs or sandals.
In order to have your duty recorded you will need to sign in at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of your duty and sign out at the conclusion of your duty with the MLA Team Manager located in the MLA tent.
We are sure you can appreciate the volunteer nature of Little Athletics across the State and will support your child and the Centre in this regard. Thank you.
On arrival ALL athletes must register their attendance with the MLA Team Manager located in the MLA tent. This must be done at least one hour before the event time as listed in the final program.
The first marshalling call for track and field events will be at 8:00am on both days.
All track events marshalling will occur on the northern side of the track near the 1500m starting point.
For first field events each day athletes will proceed directly to their event for marshalling at the competition area. For all other field event marshalling competitors must make their way to the designated field marshalling area located behind the 100m starting point on the front track.
Each event will receive two marshalling calls.
The first call will be made 20 – 25 minutes before the event start time followed by a second and final call 7 minutes later.
In the case of track events, marshalling where possible will close 3 minutes later, with no athlete entries (with the exception of field event clashes) permitted after that cut off point.
This policy will ensure that seeding adjustments can be made in the event of multiple athlete withdrawals to ultimately provide a fairer outcome for all competitors.
Clash of Events
There will be a Clash Manager (and assistants) responsible for collecting athletes from field events and taking them to track events when there is a clash. Event Chiefs will be instructed only to release children to designated Clash Manager/Assistants (identified by a lanyard). Please advise parents they MUST NOT remove children from an event themselves. If they do, the child risks disqualification.
In addition to being posted on a notice board at the ground, all results will be available online as soon as possible after the event. You can access these results at http://www.littlearesults.com/NEMZ/
Zone Championships will most likely proceed irrespective of the weather conditions. Athletes should ideally take a small backpack/bag with a hat/sunscreen, drink bottles and a jumper/jacket etc.
In the event of extreme conditions, such as excessive heat, storms or flooding, the Championships may be delayed or temporarily suspended. Any decision to delay or postpone the Championships will be made by the Zone Committee and advised to Centre Team Managers as soon as possible.
