2020 State Relay Championships – unfortunately cancelled due to Covid restrictions

Zone Carnival – Region/State Progression Pathway

The Zone carnival is the major event for the North East Metro Zone held every season.  Five Little Athletics Centres contest the Zone Carnival:

  • Mosman
  • Manly Warringah
  • Ku-Ring-Gai
  • Northern Districts
  • Hornsby

Please note the 2020 North East Metro Zone Championships and Region Championships have been cancelled. There will be a State Championship event run in 2021, and State Qualifiers will be run for State selection. We are waiting on LANSW to advise how / when this will run, and will notify you asap.

The Zone Championship is open to all U7 to U17 athletes, but athletes must complete a nomination form if they wish to be considered for any event.

Parent Duty

These carnivals are run entirely by volunteers and cannot operate without parent support.  As a result, when you enter your child into the carnival, you are also signing up to 3 hours of parent duty during the carnival.  Any parent unable to do the parent duty should not submit a nomination for entry for their child.

Who can compete and in what events

  • The Zone is open to all athletes aged from U7 to U17
  • U7 to U11 may participate in a maximum of 4 events each, with a maximum of 4 participants from each Centre in any one event.
  • U12 to U17 may participate in up to 6 events each, with unlimited entry from each Centre in each event.

Selection criteria

Historically, most athletes have been able to compete in the majority of events that they nominate.  This is changing, however, as we get more members wanting to participate in these carnivals.  Unlike other Centres, we still have a system where athletes are able to nominate their desired events (most others are selected by the Committee, with no input or preference nominated by the athlete).

We are restricted, however, by the number of athletes per Centre per event.  In the U7 to U11 age groups, this is limited to 4.  In the case where more than 4 athletes nominate for the event, preference will be given to the best performing athletes at Competition nights.

Final selection will be decided by the MLAC Championships Committee.
