State Relays and Zone report – Mosman Little Athletics

State Relays and Zone report

What a busy few weeks of athletics we have all had!

We had 134 athletes represent Mosman Little Athletics at zone last weekend and 24 teams competing at the Little Athletics NSW State Relays the weekend before, a hectic time for parents, volunteers, coaches and our hard working committee alike.

State Relays results

We are proud of every athlete who gave up their time to train and compete, as MLA not only won two medals and had 15 teams making a final, but there were no disqualifications or any batons dropped!  This is testament to our athletes’ commitment to their training and hard work as a team, and to the quality coaching we have in place.  Congratulations to everyone.

The team medals were awarded to:

1 x Gold Medal U9 Mixed 200M Team

Emilia Fallon, Jessica Parker, Conrad Blackwell-Smith and Joel Daily

1 x Bronze Medal U10 4x100M Boys Team

Brody Folkes, Finn Pereira, William Taylor and Thomas Kierse.

This is an amazing achievement by these two teams and I congratulate each of these athletes for a wonderful team effort.

I would also like to thank our coaching staff, Josh Swan, Nick Corel, Nikita Spalvins, Claudia Mee and Krish Mirchandani,  and  all of whom worked long days out at Homebush either acting as team managers or warming up and coaching our athletes before their events. Also thanks to our Head Coach Tom Giles and all coaches who joined Tom to train our athletes at Narrabeen and Balmoral.

Zone results

134 athletes competed at zone and excelled yet again on our previous seasons results!

Our amazing athletes achieved:

  • 1st place – 32
  • 2nd place – 19
  • 3rd place – 32
  • Top 8 finalists – 215

While all athletes are to be commended for their efforts we wanted to make particular mention of the outstanding Mosman results in the middle and long distance events:

  • In the 800m 14 Mosman athletes were placed in the top three, with 7 of those in 1st place.
  • In the 1500m 9 Mosman athletes were placed in the top three, with 6 of those in 1st place.
  • In the 3000m 5 Mosman athletes were placed in the top three, with 3 of those in 1st place.

An amazing 83 athletes placing in the top 3 with 215 athletes in the top 8 – incredible results and something for all our MLA athletes to be proud of.

Congratulations to all our under 7 athletes who participated for the first time at zone in what can be a daunting experience – great effort!

These events are reliant on everyone’s efforts so a huge thanks to all our families for contributing to the team spirit track side, volunteering at the call rooms or as their child’s team manager.   Of course, nothing would happen without MLA’s dedicated hardworking Committee! A special thanks to our Championship Officer Fiona who bravely took on the roll at the last minute and did a great job to organise and administer 2 major athletics events! Thank you also to our past President Jill, and Camilla and Alison for all their efforts in the background supporting our new committee.

Again thank you to our fantastic coaching team who provide the quality coaching to our MLA athletes that make us one of the best Little Athletics Clubs in Sydney.

Of course all of this would not be possible without our generous sponsors McGrath Mosman, Buena and Harris Farm Markets. Our long term and major sponsor McGrath, who can be found each Monday cooking hundreds of sausages for us at Balmoral Oval, would like to notify our MLA community of the following message:

We are Moving!

While we spend our time moving more people on the Lower North Shore than any other agency, we are now moving ourselves!

We are thrilled to announce that McGrath Mosman will now have a new and permanent home at 803 Raglan Street, next to the Council carpark in the Village.

We look forward to all our clients and those who should be, joining us as we come back home to the heart of Mosman in 2018!

Kind Regards
